April Presentation
Polynesian Cultures of the South Pacific
Raymond A. Young

The central Pacific Ocean was colonized by some of the greatest Navigators of all time, the Polynesians. The Polynesian triangle is defined by Hawaii, New Zealand & Easter Island, and includes Samoa, Tonga, Tahiti & the Marquesas.

Originally contacted by Captain James Cook during his three voyages to the region and the location of the Mutiny on the Bounty, fascinating stories abound from the region. The origins and unique culture of the Polynesians will be described, including their customs, ceremonies, food, & materials. Finally, the dramatic effect of European & American contact & occupation on the population and culture of the Polynesians will be revealed.

4:00 pm April 20, 2016

Audubon Nature Center
Celery Fields, 999 Center Rd & Palmer Blvd, Sarasota
A Wine & Cheese Meet & Greet will follow immediately after the presentation at the same location. A small donation of $5.00 to SCAS is suggested.

Social Networking Report March 2016

We are emailing our members several times each month with notices of events. It is a fine line from informing our membership and sending too many emails. Hopefully we have reached the correct balance. Dave Haralson and I have been splitting the duties. It is a good idea to have two or more people emailing our membership in case one of us is hit by a bus on a Sister Cities trip.

We publish our schedules, info and photos on our Newsletter Blog - click: sarasotasistercities.com

You can post information and photos and interact with others on the addresses below. All of our members and friends are encouraged to join us. These systems work best if we have a number of our members posting.

We now have 131 followers on our Twitter site. Check it out. It is easy to create an account and post directly yourself. And prove to everyone that you are up to date.

We have many photos on line. You can see them on our Pinterest page or see them from the left column of the blog.

If any of you would like to help improve our social marketing systems give me a call or send me an email or just jump in and start posting to our Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, or Twitter addresses. And if you know anyone who can help with this effort please put me in contact with me.

I continue to post news releases with little success. It is easy to write a news release on the Tampa Bay News Wire and theoretically the papers will pick this up. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
